iOS game maker: the honest position

By Eduardo Orellana · Updated

Flockbay is free on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. Claude Pro or Max, or ChatGPT Plus or higher, builds a real Godot project in the Godot editor. Claude Free and ChatGPT Free do not run here. More models are optional, a credit reload at API prices. Windows today. The engine is the official Godot release. Flockbay runs on a Windows PC, and the games it makes run there. If your target is the App Store, here is exactly where that leaves you.

Two different questions

Searching for an iOS game maker can mean one of two things and they have different answers. Either you want to make a game on your iPhone or iPad, or you want to make a game for iPhone and iPad using a computer.

On the first: no. Flockbay is a desktop application for macOS and Windows. There is no iOS app, no iPad version and no browser version that would work around it. If the only device you have is a tablet, this is not a tool you can use, and that is not going to change with a setting.

On the second, the answer is longer and worth reading properly.

What Flockbay is built for

It makes games that run locally on the copy of Godot bundled with the app, on your desktop machine. That is the case it is designed and tested around: you build a world — a 3D one with real terrain and weather and things living in it, or a flat one with painted ground, a band of scenery and sprites, whichever of the two you pick when you create the project — you press play, and your machine renders it.

That local-first design is also what shapes the games. A world sized for a desktop GPU is not automatically a world that runs on a phone. Thermal limits, memory, touch input and a five-inch screen are not adjustments, they are a different design. A game built here and moved to a phone unchanged will usually be a bad phone game even when it technically runs.

So the honest framing is that this is a desktop game tool. It is not a mobile authoring pipeline and there is no App Store publishing path inside it.

What you do have

A real Godot project in a folder on your disk. Godot is open source and has its own platform support, and what you do with your project after it exists is genuinely yours — it is not locked to this app.

But be clear-eyed about what shipping to iOS involves regardless of tooling: an Apple developer account, Xcode on a Mac, signing, provisioning and review. That work exists whatever engine you use and it is not something a game maker removes. Anyone selling you a one-click path to the App Store is skipping over a real process.

If iOS is the actual goal of your project rather than a later maybe, a tool built around mobile output will serve you better than this one.

If you are on a Mac and just want to make something

Then this works well, and being on a Mac is the ordinary case rather than a compromise. You build the world by hand: in a 3D project, shaping terrain, outlining water, setting weather and placing buildings and characters; in a 2D project, painting ground a cell at a time and placing sprites at the position, turn and size you want. Flockbay writes the GDScript for behaviour into your project either way, and is told whichever set of tools the project actually has. You play it locally and say what is wrong.

Nothing about the process requires code, and everything about it requires judgement, which is the trade. Building needs an internet connection because the chat, asset generation and world data come over the network; playing what you built does not.

The download is free and so is the builder. Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key. Flockbay builds from a library of ready-made objects, or with Godot's own shapes.

Questions

Is there an iPhone or iPad version of Flockbay?
No. It is a desktop app for macOS and Windows.
Can I publish a game to the App Store with it?
There is no publishing path inside the app. You end up with a Godot project, and shipping to iOS involves an Apple developer account, Xcode and review regardless of the tool used.
Is it a mobile game tool at all?
No. It is built around games that run locally on a desktop machine, and games designed for that do not usually transfer to a phone unchanged.
Does it run on Apple silicon Macs?
It is a macOS desktop application, alongside the Windows build.
What do I own at the end?
A normal Godot project in a folder on your machine, on open-source software.
