A Rosebud alternative that trades the browser for the hardware
By Eduardo Orellana · Updated
Flockbay is free on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. Claude Pro or Max, or ChatGPT Plus or higher, builds a real Godot project in the Godot editor. Claude Free and ChatGPT Free do not run here. More models are optional, a credit reload at API prices. Windows today. The engine is the official Godot release. Rosebud and Flockbay both put AI between you and the code. They differ on where the game runs, and almost every other difference follows from that one.
The one difference everything else comes from
Rosebud lives in a browser. You open a page, describe a game, and it exists at a URL you can send to someone. Nothing to install, works on whatever machine you happen to be at, and sharing is a link.
Flockbay is installed software for Windows. The game runs locally on the copy of Godot bundled with the app, using your own graphics card. There is no link to send and no page to open.
Everything below is a consequence of that. Neither position is dishonest; they are two different bets about what matters.

What Rosebud is genuinely better at
Starting. There is no download, no install, no system requirements conversation. You can be describing a game a minute after deciding to.
Sharing. A URL is the best distribution mechanism ever invented for a small game. Someone clicks and they are playing. A desktop build is a file that people have to trust and open, and that is a real barrier.
Access. It works on a school laptop, a Chromebook, a borrowed machine, anything with a browser. Flockbay does not, and for some people that ends the comparison immediately.

What the local trade buys
Frame budget. Your machine renders the game, so terrain, weather, draw distance and the number of things alive at once are limited by your hardware rather than by a tab. That is the difference between building a scene and building a world.
The project. Yours is a real Godot project in a folder on your disk. Godot is open source and free, so the project opens without this app and without an account.
A different division of labour. In Flockbay you build the world by hand with manual controls, and Flockbay writes the GDScript for how it behaves. Placement is yours because pointing at where a thing goes beats describing it.

Choosing between them
Pick the browser tool if you want to make small games quickly, share them instantly, or cannot install software. Those are strong reasons and they are not consolation prizes.
Pick this one if the game needs a world, if you want to keep the project regardless of what happens to any company, or if you intend to be working on the same thing in six months.
Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key. Building needs an internet connection; playing what you built does not.
What moving across actually involves
Downloading and installing something, which takes a few minutes, and then finding out whether your machine is comfortable with the size of world you have in mind. That second part is the real test and it is worth doing early.
Rebuilding rather than importing. There is no converter and there could not be a good one, since the engines are different in kind. Art and audio carry over. Mechanics have to be described again, which is quicker than it sounds because you already know what you want them to do.
And getting used to placing things yourself. If you have only ever described a game, the builder is a different way of working. Most people find it faster within an afternoon, because pointing at where a house goes has never been slower than writing a sentence about it.

Questions
- Can I import a Rosebud game?
- No. Different engine and different runtime. Art and audio move across; the game itself has to be rebuilt.
- Can I share my game with a link?
- No. Games here are local builds you hand to someone, which is more friction than a URL. That is a genuine advantage the browser tools keep.
- Is Flockbay 3D?
- Either. Creating a project asks 2D or 3D, shown as two pictures, and nothing is made until you pick one. The 3D side has terrain, water and weather; the 2D side has ground you paint as tiles and a Catalogue that is mostly sprites. Same app, same builder, the same chat, running on the bundled Godot locally.
- Does it work on a Chromebook?
- No. It needs macOS or Windows. If a browser is all you have, a browser tool is the right answer.
- Do I write any code?
- No. Flockbay writes GDScript into your project, and you play the result and say whether it is right.
