Flockbay is free on your own AI: you pay the company that runs your model, and Flockbay nothing.

By Eduardo Orellana · Updated

Flockbay is free on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. Claude Pro or Max, or ChatGPT Plus or higher, builds a real Godot project in the Godot editor. Claude Free and ChatGPT Free do not run here. More models are optional, a credit reload at API prices. Windows today. The engine is the official Godot release. The download is free and so is the app. Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key.

What it costs

The download is free. The platform — the editor, the builder, Godot, playing and exporting — is free, whichever AI builds.

The AI is your own, and Flockbay charges nothing for it: your Claude plan, Pro or Max, or your ChatGPT sign-in on Plus or higher, in the app; your own agent over MCP; or your own API key for OpenAI or Anthropic. A plan is optional: Indie is $20 a month, Pro is $60 and Ultra is $200, and on each of them Flockbay runs the AI for you. Pro has 3× the usage of Indie, and Ultra 10×. A free Flockbay account signs you in either way.

There is no team plan, no per-seat pricing and no enterprise tier, because this is a desktop app that one person sits in front of.

What the AI costs, and who you pay

Flockbay writes the GDScript for your game through a model that runs over the network. On your own AI, the model is yours: your Claude plan, your ChatGPT plan, your API account, or whatever your own agent runs on, and what it costs is between you and that company. On a Flockbay plan, we run the model for you, and each plan opens a band of models by what they cost to run: fast, low-cost ones on Indie, stronger ones on Pro, nearly every model on Ultra. The most expensive models, like GPT-5.5 Pro, are on no plan and run only on your own key. Flockbay builds from a library of ready-made objects, or with Godot's own shapes.

It is not a licence to the engine. Godot is open source and free, and a copy of it ships inside the app. Nobody is renting you a renderer.

Storage comes with the account. Your game is a folder on your own disk, and it stays one. A copy is also kept in your Flockbay account, with 1 GB of room on Free, 20 GB on Indie, 100 GB on Pro and 500 GB on Ultra, counting each file once however many of your games use it. You can switch it off per game, and it is a convenience rather than a backup guarantee, so keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Nothing is held back

The builder, the engine, and everything you do with your hands. There is no larger world, higher resolution or export button waiting behind a payment.

The usual shape in this market is a free tier that is really a demo of the engine. This one is the other way around: the engine is free, and paying changes only who runs the AI.

So connecting your own AI, or picking a plan, is a decision about which models build your project, not a decision about what kind of game you are allowed to make.

Privacy is not a tier either. Summer Engine lists “Private projects and assets” among the features of its $20 plan. Every Flockbay project is private, on Free too: no other creator can open it unless you invite them.

What decides what the AI costs you

How much of the work you hand over. Building by hand uses no AI at all, and which hand work that is depends on the question a new project asks before it makes anything: 2D or 3D. In a 3D world it is sculpting terrain, drawing a lake, setting the weather and the time of day, placing buildings and characters. In a flat one it is dragging to say which cells are ground and putting sprites at the position, turn and size you want them. Either way it is you working on your own machine, and it costs nothing. What uses the AI, your own or a plan's, is asking Flockbay for behaviour.

There is one habit that costs more than any choice of model, which is asking for the same thing eight times in slightly different words and hoping one version lands. Deciding what you want, asking once, playing the result and then saying precisely what is wrong is both cheaper and faster. Nothing in the app enforces that. It is just how the arithmetic works.

Costs that are not ours

Your computer. The game runs on your hardware, so how large and busy a world you can build is bounded by the machine far more than by anything else.

A store, if you take the game to one. Putting a game on Steam has its own costs, and the app itemises them at the point you submit rather than quoting them on a page like this, because they come from the current schedule and not from something written months earlier.

A plan is monthly and can be cancelled at any time. The refunds page says how cancelling works and who to write to about a charge.

Questions

Is Flockbay free?
Yes, on your own AI: your Claude plan or ChatGPT Plus or higher in the app, your own agent over MCP, or your own API key.
Is there a paid plan?
Yes, three, and they are optional: Indie at $20 a month, Pro at $60 and Ultra at $200. On each, Flockbay runs the AI for you, and your own AI stays free alongside it. They are in the app's account menu.
Is there a team, per-seat or enterprise plan?
No. Flockbay is for one person on one desktop app.
Do I need a card to start?
No. A card is asked for only when you pick a plan.
Is it a subscription or a one-off purchase?
A plan is a monthly subscription you can cancel at any time. On your own AI there is nothing to buy: what your AI costs is paid to the company that runs it.
What do I need to start?
The download and a free Flockbay account. Then connect your own AI: build with your Claude plan, sign in with ChatGPT, connect your own agent, or paste an API key.
Can I pick which AI model builds my game?
Yes. On your Claude plan you pick among the models Claude Code offers your account; with ChatGPT connected, among your ChatGPT account’s models; with an API key, any model it reaches. On a Flockbay plan you pick from the models it opens. The choice is per chat.
