An AI Roblox Studio alternative, and where Roblox is still better

By Eduardo Orellana · Updated

Flockbay is free on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. Claude Pro or Max, or ChatGPT Plus or higher, builds a real Godot project in the Godot editor. Claude Free and ChatGPT Free do not run here. More models are optional, a credit reload at API prices. Windows today. The engine is the official Godot release. Roblox Studio is very good at things Flockbay does not do at all. Here is the actual comparison, so you can tell which side of it you are on.

What Roblox Studio is genuinely better at

Distribution. If you publish on Roblox, your game is immediately in front of an audience that is already there, on a platform that handles discovery. Nothing you build outside that platform gets anywhere near the same free reach, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.

Multiplayer and hosting. Roblox runs the servers. Multiplayer is the default assumption rather than a hard problem you solve, and for a lot of the games people want to make that is the single biggest reason to stay.

Social features and moderation, which are enormous amounts of infrastructure you get for nothing. And the economy: Robux gives a young creator a route to earning that does not require setting up a storefront.

If your game is a multiplayer social experience aimed at the Roblox audience, Roblox Studio is the right tool and you should use it.

Where the platform costs you

Your game only exists on Roblox. It runs in their client, under their rules, subject to their moderation and their platform changes, and it takes their cut. That is the price of the distribution, and it is a fair price right up until your game is something the platform is not shaped for.

Luau is also code. Roblox Studio has added AI assistance, but the developer path there still assumes you learn to script. If you bring your own Claude or ChatGPT plan and do not intend to write the scripts yourself, the ceiling arrives early.

And the aesthetic and technical envelope is set by the platform. A game that wants its own look, its own performance profile, or a release on Steam is fighting the container.

What Flockbay offers instead

A desktop app for Windows that you download and install. Inside it, Godot, open source, running your game locally on your own machine. Your project is a Godot project. Nobody can change the terms of it.

Flockbay writes the GDScript. Not as an assistant you check, but as the path: you describe what should happen, the code goes into your project, and you play the result and say whether it is right. The world you build by hand.

Which world is the first question the app asks. Making a project asks 2D or 3D, shown as two pictures, with no default and nothing created until you pick. Pick 3D and you are placing terrain, water, weather and buildings directly. Pick 2D and you drag to lay tile ground and drag to erase it, with the tiles, the edges and the collision falling out of which cells are ground, and you put sprites on top at an exact position, turn and size — 55,073 of them sit in the Catalogue inside the app. Roblox Studio has one answer to that question. This has two, and the flat one is not the consolation.

There is no platform cut, no moderation queue and no audience waiting for you. You would be releasing the game yourself, wherever you choose. That is more freedom and considerably more work.

Choosing between them

Stay with Roblox Studio if the audience is the point, if the game is social and multiplayer, or if you are making things for friends who are already on Roblox.

Look at Flockbay if you want to own what you make, if you want a single-player or small-scale game with its own look, if you want to put something on Steam, or if you bring your own Claude or ChatGPT plan and the scripting requirement is the thing stopping you.

Plenty of people will reasonably use both. They are not competing for the same afternoon.

The terms

Free to download, and the builder itself is free: terrain, water and weather on the 3D side, painted ground and placed sprites on the flat one, and on both, cameras, your own assets, playtesting and publishing. Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key. There is no seat or team pricing, because it is a desktop app.

Building needs an internet connection, because the model, asset generation and world data come over the network. Playing what you built runs locally on the bundled Godot without one. There is no browser version.

The part nobody mentions: getting anyone to play it

Leaving a platform means leaving its audience, and that is a larger cost than most people estimate. On Roblox a mediocre game gets played. Off it, an excellent game gets played by nobody unless you go and find the players yourself, and finding players is a separate skill from making games.

That is not a reason to stay, but it is a reason to know what you are choosing. If you take the ownership and the freedom, you also take the marketing, the store page, the trailer and the long unglamorous business of getting attention.

Some people find that a fair trade and some find it a shock a year in. It is worth deciding which you are before you start.

Questions

Can I export a Roblox game into Flockbay?
No. They are different engines with different formats. Moving a project across means rebuilding it, which is worth knowing before you decide.
Does Flockbay do multiplayer like Roblox?
Godot supports networking and Flockbay can write it, but you would arrange hosting yourself. Roblox handling servers for free is a real advantage and we are not going to claim otherwise.
Is it suitable for a younger creator?
It runs on Windows and does not require coding. It is aimed at people making a specific game rather than at a social platform, so the reason to use it is the game, not the audience.
Can I sell what I make?
It is your Godot project, so yes, on any store you can get onto. Nobody takes a platform cut of it.
What does it cost?
The download and the builder cost nothing. Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key.
