Your own AI

Build with your ChatGPT plan

Sign in with ChatGPT and Flockbay’s chat runs on your own ChatGPT subscription, through the Codex engine that ships with the app. You pay OpenAI for the plan you already have, and Flockbay nothing.

Sign in once

  1. Press "Use your own AI" on the amber Low-quality model warning above the message box, or open the model menu beside Send and pick the ChatGPT tab.
  2. Press Sign in with ChatGPT. The same button is on the ChatGPT row in Connectors.
  3. Your browser opens on OpenAI’s page. Sign in there and come back: the row shows the account and its plan.

The sign-in is kept in a folder of Flockbay’s own, not in your Codex home, so a Codex you run in a terminal is not touched.

Which ChatGPT plans work

ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu. OpenAI keeps Free and Go to its own apps, so they cannot build here.

Signing in on Free or Go shows a card titled "ChatGPT Free and Go can’t build here", with Get ChatGPT Plus and I’ve upgraded. You upgrade on OpenAI’s site, then sign in again. No Flockbay plan is offered in its place.

Models and reasoning

The model menu’s ChatGPT tab has a ChatGPT row, which is the model your account picks, and then your account’s own models. A model that can think for longer shows a Reasoning control with Low, Medium and High. The choice belongs to the chat.

Signing out

Sign out is on the ChatGPT row in Connectors. It removes the sign-in from this PC, and it works while a project is open.

Where it breaks

Which models a ChatGPT sign-in reaches is OpenAI’s decision, and it changes on OpenAI’s side. The menu shows the list as it is today, which is why no model is named on this page.

A turn on your own AI may run for up to twelve hours. An API key is the other way to reach OpenAI’s models: it is billed by OpenAI per token, separately from a ChatGPT subscription.
