An AI alternative to Roblox Studio, and when it is the wrong choice
By Eduardo Orellana · Updated
Flockbay is free on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. Claude Pro or Max, or ChatGPT Plus or higher, builds a real Godot project in the Godot editor. Claude Free and ChatGPT Free do not run here. More models are optional, a credit reload at API prices. Windows today. The engine is the official Godot release. Roblox Studio and Flockbay solve different problems. Roblox gives you an audience and a platform. Flockbay gives you a standalone Godot game that belongs to you. Neither of those is strictly better.
What Roblox Studio is genuinely better at
Distribution. This is not a small point, it is the whole point. A game you publish on Roblox is instantly reachable by an enormous audience that is already there, already has accounts, and already knows how to play. Nothing you build outside a platform starts with that.
It is also free to use, has a mature multiplayer stack you do not have to think about, has built-in monetisation, and has an avatar and social system that would take years to replicate. If you want people playing your thing next week, Roblox is a serious answer and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise.
And there is a community. Tutorials, models, an enormous body of shared knowledge. That has real value when you get stuck.

What you accept in exchange
Your game is an experience on someone else's platform. It runs in their client, under their rules, with their moderation and their revenue split, and it only exists as long as they host it. The technical ceiling is theirs too, and so is the aesthetic — a Roblox game reads as a Roblox game.
You also write Luau. Roblox Studio is a developer tool. There is AI assistance in it now, but the mental model is still that you are a programmer working in an IDE.
None of that is a criticism. It is the trade, and for a lot of people it is the right one.

What Flockbay does instead
It builds a standalone game on Godot, which is open source. The project is a Godot project on your disk. Nobody hosts it, nobody moderates it, and nobody takes a cut of it. It also means nobody hands you players — that part is now your problem.
You build on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan. You build the world by hand in the builder, and Flockbay writes the GDScript inside your project. You describe what should happen, play the result, and say whether it is right. That is a different working model from an IDE with an assistant in it.
And the game runs locally on the copy of Godot bundled with the app, at your machine's framerate. Not in a client, not streamed, not in a tab.
How to choose
Choose Roblox Studio if reaching players quickly matters more than owning the thing, if the social and multiplayer layer is central to your idea, or if you actually want to learn to program.
Choose Flockbay if the game you have in mind is not a Roblox game — a single player world, a specific look, a pace that a platform audience would not sit still for — and if you do not want to write the code.
There is no reason both cannot be true at different times. They are different tools and the honest answer is that the choice depends on what you want at the end.

Practical differences
Flockbay is a desktop app for Windows. It is free to download, and the world builder is free to use. Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key. Flockbay builds from a library of ready-made objects, or with Godot's own shapes. There is no team or seat plan.
Building needs an internet connection because the chat and asset generation come over the network. Playing what you built does not.
One more practical difference: on Roblox your players are already inside a client that handles updates, patches and installs. Outside it, distributing a new build is something you arrange yourself, and it is worth knowing that before you promise anyone regular updates.
The distribution question, taken seriously
If you leave the platform you have to answer where players come from, and it is the hardest unanswered question in independent games. Roblox answers it for you and that is worth a great deal. Nothing outside it answers it at all.
This is worth thinking about before you start rather than after you finish. A standalone game needs a store page, a trailer, and someone deciding to try it. That is a different skill from making the game and it takes real time.
The counterweight is that a standalone game can be sold, can look like whatever you want, and is not competing for attention inside a feed optimised for something else. A slow, quiet, single player game has a much better chance as a standalone release than as an experience on a platform whose audience is there for something faster.
Neither answer is right in general. The question is what your specific game needs, and the honest version of that question includes the marketing you will have to do.
Questions
- Can Flockbay publish to Roblox?
- No. It builds a standalone Godot game. If your goal is a Roblox experience, use Roblox Studio.
- Does it do multiplayer like Roblox does?
- Roblox has a mature hosted multiplayer stack and that is a genuine advantage. Anything networked here is code in your own project rather than a platform service.
- Do I write Luau or GDScript?
- Neither, in the sense that your own Claude or ChatGPT writes the GDScript. The project contains GDScript, written by Flockbay.
- Is Flockbay free like Roblox Studio?
- The download is free and building by hand costs nothing. Flockbay is free on your own AI: your Claude or ChatGPT plan, your own agent, or an API key. Roblox Studio itself is free to use.
- Who owns the game?
- It is a Godot project on your disk. Nothing about it requires us to keep hosting anything.
- Is Godot similar to Roblox Studio to work in?
- Not especially, and you will not be working in it directly anyway. You use the builder and describe behaviour; the Godot project is the output rather than the interface.
