What the template starts with
The zombie survival template starts with one house, one barricade and a slow horde. That is the smallest version of the loop that defines the genre: scavenge, barricade, survive the night.
What to change first
Face the horde with the door open and with the barricade up. The second should buy time you can spend scavenging. If both end at the same second, the planks are cosmetic.
