The Balatro style template starts with a deck of cards, five poker hands that score, and one joker that multiplies.
Poker hands you already know, and a joker that multiplies them until the number is silly. Balatro (LocalThunk, 2024) does not ask you to learn a new combat verb. Five cards, a scoring hand, one joker. 2D. A map of elite fights is the roguelike deckbuilder. Here the tension is the blind you have to beat with the hand you were dealt.
What to change first
Score a plain flush, then the same flush with the joker, and make the second number obviously ruder. If they match, the joker is a sticker. The AI deckbuilder maker is the growing set of modifiers. The poker is why a new player can start.
