What the template starts with
The Stardew Valley style template starts with one field, one crop, energy that runs out and a day that ends.
The day has a clock and an energy bar, so the morning is a choice between the field, the mine, the water and a person. Stardew Valley (ConcernedApe, 2016) is that choice, not an infinite watering can. 2D, one day, one bar that can hit empty before the clock does. A season with no bedtime is the other farming style.
What to change first
Empty the energy bar at 10 a.m. and make the player go home or push and pay for it. If they can work until an arbitrary quit, you removed the day. The farming game maker is the crop. The clock is why this style exists.
