Survivors-like template
You only move. The weapon fires itself, gems drop, and a level-up asks you to pick one upgrade while the wave continues. Vampire Survivors (poncle, 2022) made the weapon the interface. Brotato (Blobfish, 2023) puts a shop between short waves. Change how fast the wave grows before you add a second weapon. This is closer to a roguelike game maker than to a brawler, and the AI roguelike maker is the matching page.

What makes a survivors-like
Survivors-like: you only move while weapons fire themselves at growing swarms, choosing an upgrade at each level.
The games that set the standard are Vampire Survivors (poncle, 2022), Brotato (Blobfish, 2023) and Halls of Torment (Chasing Carrots, 2023).
What the template starts with
The survivors-like template starts with one character, one automatic weapon and a growing wave. That is the smallest version of the loop that defines the genre: move, weapons fire, collect gems, choose an upgrade.
What to change first
Survive one minute with a single automatic weapon. If you are never forced to walk, the spawns are too polite. If you die before the first level-up, the spawns are a wall. The choice of upgrade should arrive while you are still in trouble.
