Guilty Gear Strive (Arc System Works, 2021) spends one confirmed hit on the rest of the round. Make a blocked punch push the other character back before you draw special moves. What the template starts with
The fighting game template starts with two characters with a punch, a kick and a block on one stage. That is the smallest version of the loop that defines the genre: space, poke, punish, combo.
What to change first
Stand at the range where your kick touches and your punch does not. Block until you can punish a whiff by walking forward, not by mashing. A fireball is a later argument about that same range.
